The Flyers and forward James van Riemsdyk have agreed to a multiyear extension, the team and player announced Tuesday on their respective Twitter accounts.
Van Riemsdyk, 22, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
"Excited to sign a 6 year extension with the @NHLFlyers, love playing in Philly," van Riemsdyk tweeted.
The extension is for $25.5M over six years, with an annual cap hit of $4.25M, a source told ESPN.com.

The Sharks have signed forward Logan Couture to a two-year extension.
Couture, 22, stood to become a restricted free agent next July.
Kings Agree To One-Year Deal With Moreau
The Kings have agreed to a one-year contract worth $600,000 with free-agent left wing Ethan Moreau, a team spokesman said Saturday.
The deal is contingent on Moreau passing a physical on Monday.
Moreau, who will turn 36 next month, is a 15-year veteran of the NHL. He played 37 games last season for the Blue Jackets, for whom he had one goal and five assists while serving as the team's alternate captain.
Rangers Agree To Terms With Andre Deveaux
Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Andre Deveaux.
Deveaux skated in 73 games in 2010-11 with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, tallying 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points, along with 194 penalty minutes. He established career highs in goals, points and shots on goal (132), while tying a career high in games played. Deveaux also ranked first on the club in penalty minutes and second on the club in goals.
Deveaux, 27, has skated in 22 NHL contests with the Maple Leafs over two seasons, 2008-09 - 2009-10, registering one assist, along with 75 penalty minutes.
The Freeport, Bahamas native was originally selected as Montreal's sixth round choice, 182nd overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Rangers Agree To Terms With Brendan Bell
Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Brendan Bell.
Bell, 28, has skated in 101 career NHL contests with the Senators, Coyotes and Maple Leafs, registering seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points, along with 51 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in 2008-09 with Ottawa, tallying six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in 53 games. Bell tied for second among Senators defensemen in goals, and ranked fourth in assists and points that season.
Bell made his NHL debut as a member of the Maple Leafs on March 21, 2006.
Shea Weber Awarded $7.5M
An arbitrator has given Predators defenseman Shea Weber a $7.5 million award.
The team announced the deal and scheduled a conference call Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report from CBC Sports, it is the largest arbitration award after John LeClair (2000) and Scott Niedermayer (2004) were each awarded $7 million.
Sharp Signs Five-Year Extension With Blackhawks
Patrick Sharp signed a five-year extension with the Blackhawks on Wednesday.
The annual cap hit of Sharp's new contract is $5.9 million, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. Sharp is entering the last year of a contract that carries a $3.9 million cap hit. His salary for the 2011-12 season is $4.2 million.
Sharp led the Hawks with 34 goals last season and had a career-high 71 points in 74 games.
Sim, Islanders Have One-Year Deal
The Islanders have agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with forward Jon Sim.
Sim had one goal and three assists in 34 games last season for the Islanders.
He had 22 points (13 goals, nine assists) in 77 games in the 2009-10 season.
Comeau, Islanders Agree To Deal
The Islanders have signed forward Blake Comeau to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday night.
Comeau, 25, had a career-high 24 goals, 22 assists and 46 points for the Islanders last season.
New York selected Comeau in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2004 draft.
